Is Pedro Neto the right fit for Postecoglou’s system?

It is no secret that Pedro Neto (24) is one of Spurs’ biggest targets this summer to bolster their front line, and reports suggest that the wide man is a personal favourite of manager Ange Postecoglou.

Since his arrival last summer, Postecoglou has made 4 signings for the front line; Veliz, Johnson, Werner, Solomon and Kulusevski who had his buy option triggered. This list of players will seem very underwhelming to many spurs fans which raises the question: Should Ange have the biggest say with incoming players? Other key additions such as Van Der Ven, Maddison and Vicario certainly suggest that with a bigger budget for the frontline Ange will bring in the right players.

Pedro Neto is rumoured to cost Spurs around £60million, more than they paid for Brennan Johnson on deadline day last year. This fee would come close to being a club record, however reports are suggesting that spurs are hopeful of completing the deal for closer to £50million.

When it comes to Neto’s ability he is one of the leagues best 1v1 specialists and has the ability to cause problems on either wing. The big concern around the player is his horrific list of injuries throughout his career. Since signing for wolves in 2019, Neto has missed 112 matches through injury. The Portuguese winger had 2 hamstring injuries last season alone which meant he missed 125 days of the season, as-well as his worst injury being a knee injury that kept him out for nearly 300 days and 52 games in the 2020/21 season.

Reports suggest that spurs are willing to look past Neto’s injury record as people inside the club believe that he is the perfect winger for Ange Postecoglou’s System, where wide men who can beat their man on the outside are crucial. Neto picked up 9 assists in 20 league games last season for wolves, showing he can become a huge creative outlet for Tottenham should the transfer happen.
