KEEP/SELL/LOAN: The Goalkeepers.

It’s decision time for Postecoglou…

The newly-appointed Head Coach wasted absolutely no time at all in getting his players back into the Hotspur Way for pre-season, as they returned on the 1st July – his first official day as a Tottenham Hotspur employee.

Postecoglou has a tough task ahead of him in the coming two months, as he has to sort through a first team squad of 33 players and decide which ones he wants to keep and sell before the transfer window slams shut on September 1st.

Over the next few days, we’re going to bring you our personal thoughts on who Ange Postecoglou should keep, sell and sign, starting off with the goalkeepers…

Goalkeepers:

Hugo Lloris – release:
The Frenchman’s days as number one seem to be numbered after we completed the signing of Guglielmo Vicario for £16.3m from Empoli. He’s made it known he wants to move on and if Ange doesn’t fancy him, then we should release him to free up his wages.

Fraser Forster – keep:
The former Southampton goalkeeper deputised for Lloris 20 times (all comps) last season and impressed often. He counts as a homegrown player and he’s a solid option for the backup keeper role.

Alfie Whiteman – decision:
Whiteman has had two loan spells with Swedish side Degerfors IF since 2021 and signed a new two year deal in February, but a decision has to be made in pre-season as to whether he wants to pursue lower-league first team football or stick around as the third choice or keeper.

Brandon Austin – decision:
Austin hasn’t gone out on loan since 2021 and has been rotated as the third choice keeper with Alfie Whiteman. He is 24 years old now so a decision needs to be made on whether he stays or leaves.
